BACKGROUND - The 2016 Bangkok Tens is in it's 11th year and the largest social tournament in South East Asia. Held across multiple fields at the Patana School in South East Bangkok, the venue hosts Junior, Mens, Womens, Veterans and Touch Rugby amounting to over 1800 participants. Here we will focus on the Men's and Veteran's contact while the Women's, Junior and Touch sections will be covered else where.

FRIDAY NIGHT - The Sheraton Four Points hosts the opening ceremony as hundreds of excitable Rugby enthusiasts gather on it's roof top. The Bangkok skyline creates an electric atmosphere with singing, cheering and dancing to the pumping tunes from the DJ complete with the digeridoo. BKK Tens regular Dan Nicholl welcomes everyone and then tournament's founder and organiser Eddie Evan lays down the Bkk 10s mantra - this weekend is about great rugby, great, fun and creating great memories.

SATURDAY  - The Patana fields are bathed in sunshine and activity  at 11am when the Men's and Vets  kick off. There are  teams competing from Europe, NZ, Australia, South Africa and the length of breadth of Asia, providing a high standard of Rugby. Observing from the sideline the games are played in excellent spirits, and it was heart warming to witness opposing teams socialising after each game. But when you think about it, how worked up can you get when you have those beautiful Hooter girls smiling and dancing on the sideline.

SATURDAY NIGHT - Behind the grandstand the children's playzone transforms into a rock concert with Eddie Evans up front again - this time with guitar in hand and his four piece rock band. The hungry mouths are fed and amber fluid flow as teams continue their care free partying  and discuss highlights from the day's Rugby. In fact if you have a keen enough eye you can peer into the shadows and see the odd court session in progress Around 9.30pm the entertainment wraps up and good times find their way onto the streets of Bangkok.

SUNDAY - It's the last day and teams eye off a place in the finals to be held later that day.  At 2pm we are presented with the entertaining Ancients game where older players  compete to raise funds for the charity  The Nak Suu Rugby Academy, (see below). Its an affirmation of another key value of the Bkk 10s - genoursity.  This game, and the entire 2016 tournament raised enough money to run  this Bangkok based charity for another year. The finals provide some exciting contests, none more then the Mens Cup final where the Jam Boys snatch the game in over time over a gallant NZ Waiuku Wolves outfit 10-7.  As the sun sets behind the grandstand winning teams and runners grace the podium with smiles, songs, photo opportunities and even the haka,  proving once and for all. for those who embrace the spirit of the Bangkok Tens there are no losers.
